The Maesteg Gleemen were formed in 1958 are the oldest and most successful choir in Bridgend
County Borough. Twice National Eisteddfod Champions along with many other successes in local
eisteddfodau including the Miners Eisteddfod in Porthcawl in 1995.

Tours have been made throughout the UK, Europe and in 2008, their 50th anniversary, an
unforgettable 19day tour of Canada and the USA culminating in a performance in the World
famous Carnegie Hall which resulted in them receiving accolades from none other than the New
York Times as best ensemble on stage!

The choir prides itself on its charity work, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for worthwhile
charities such as Ty Hafan and tonight’s beneficiary, Prostate Cymru, whose President, David
Brace OBE, is also our president and our major sponsor over many years including the highly
regarded Dunraven Welsh Young Singer of the Year and the joint winners of that competition are
taking part tonight alongside a previous winner of the MOCSA, the competition run by our guests
tonight, the renowned Morriston Orpheus Choir. We are delighted to welcome them here this
evening, part of the Maesteg 200 celebrations.

Both choirs are extremely grateful for the financial support from Maesteg 200 and the Maesteg
Town Council which will enable all proceeds to be given to Prostate Cymru. Diolch yn fawr iawn
am eu charedigwrydd.
