Free Music Friday at the Met with Nia Evans

Originally from Y Fforest, Pontarddulais but now based in Cardiff,Nia is an award- winning harpist and graduate of both the Royal Academy of Music (BMus), and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (MMus). She enjoys a versatile career as a freelance,professional harpist, and is in high demand as both soloist, ensemble and orchestral player.

She most recently performed at the Senedd for the King and Queen on their first official visit to Wales, following her performance for the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2021. In 2023 she also enjoyed performing as a soloist at the official launch of the Cardiff BBC Singer of the WorldCompetition.

Additionally, Nia recently made her professional orchestral debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under
the baton of Robert Trevino, performing at The Lighthouse, Poole, and the Guildhall, Portsmouth. She is thoroughly looking forward to returning to the orchestra later this month for performances in Poole, Bristol and Cornwall with conductor Mark Wigglesworth. Nia’s international achievements include winning the bronze medal at the 5th Hong Kong International Harp Competition in 2020.
During her time at RAM she was awarded the Frank Britton award, was twice recipient of the Olive Jenkins Memorial Bursary, and whilst at RWCMD received the Daniel Emlyn Davies Award and the
Royal Welch Fusiliers Harp Prize.
